The development of geological thinking, and of methods of both observation and presentation owe much to the work of Hans Cloos. But because he wrote in German, he is not cited in the English literature nearly as often as he deserves to be. Nevertheless, his influence persists, through his pioneering work on rock fabrics, on tuffisites, on rifts, and on scale modeling; and through his tremendous influence as a teacher.
