A brief and selective account is given of the archives and miscellaneous manuscripts of the Geological Society of London (founded 1807). Particular attention is paid to items of the early nineteenth century, and to those likely to interest historians of geology rather than historians of the Geological Society. Information is also given on the current state of cataloguing and conserving the collection, and the regulations concerning access, photography, photocopying etc.
