William Maclure (1763-1840) established a reputation as a geologist and mineralogist in the United States, based largely on his well-known geological map of eastern North America, published in 1809. This research note discusses the important library of over 5,000 scientific books amassed by Maclure. Many of these books are now in the collection of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia.
